Lesson Length: 30 minutes

Why choose private training?

Because it allows us to tailor the training to your individual dog.

Private sessions allow us to focus on your dog's specific challenges, without the distractions of a group class.

By concentrating on the exercises and approaches that will make the biggest difference, we can make better use of your training time and help you achieve results faster.

But what about group classes?

Group classes are a great way to practise skills around other dogs, people and distractions. But not every dog is ready for that environment.

One-to-one training allows your dog to develop the necessary skills first, without becoming overwhelmed. Once they're ready, group classes can provide the next step — practising those skills in increasingly challenging situations.

Build the skills individually. Then learn to use them around distractions.

Why is an initial behaviour consultation required?

Because effective behaviour change involves three important steps, completed in the right order.

1. Understand the behaviour

Identify why your dog is behaving this way and the underlying factors driving the behaviour. These may include fear, anxiety, frustration, unmet needs or medical conditions.

For example, a dog reacting out of fear requires a very different approach from one reacting out of frustration. Understanding the cause determines the most appropriate treatment and training approach.

2. Create the right conditions for learning

Reduce stress, manage triggers and set up the environment to support a better emotional state, allowing your dog to learn.

If your dog is too stressed or overwhelmed to learn, training is unlikely to be effective.

3. Develop the practical skills

This is where private training comes in. We teach and practise the specific skills needed to achieve behaviour change.

Jumping straight into practical training without understanding the behaviour or addressing contributing factors often means relying on a generic approach or guesswork. This can significantly slow progress.
